President Obama and leaders of Australia and Columbia

Recently, President Barack Obama called his counterparts in Colombia as well as Australia. With the two leaders, he discussed the economic crisis as it affects all countries all over the world. Moreover, the leaders also talked about how they could improve their relationship in areas located in Latin America.
According to the people at the White House, after President Barack Obama was inaugurated last January 20, it was only last Tuesday that he was able to call the Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd and the president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe. Before the said phone call, Barack Obama spoke to the two leaders during the campaign. Afterwards, they also talked during the presidential election last November 2008.
President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd both discussed the topics that they talked about regarding the current global economic crisis. Aside from that, the two leaders also discussed how they are both dealing with the said problem in their own countries. Other than that, they also talked about how they should deal with the nuclear proliferation as well as the issues related to global warming and climate change.
Meanwhile, the conversation with the president of Colombia went well as the President expressed how much he is willing to work closely with the leader and how he wants to have a close relationship with the leaders within the region as well. They also both agreed to cooperate in order to counter the importing and exporting of illegal narcotics, the security in both countries, and the rights of their citizens at the same time.
When the president was still a senator, Barack Obama opposed the ratification of the free trade agreement between United States and Colombia. He said that his main concern is the continuous killings of the labor leaders situated at the Andean nation.
