D. L. Hughley is still not funny
November 2, 2008 by admin
Wow…I gave the brother another chance and he still stinks. I really try to find some type of happy medium. I’m the last person who would ever want to bring another brother down, but for god sake, someone tell him to shut the hell up.
Donna Brazile was the first guest on his show and of course she was as elegant as ever and it was obvious that Hughley should not be interviewing smart black people. He doesn’t know how to do it, he shouldn’t do it and they shouldn’t ask him to do it. It makes him look even stupider.
Al Sharpton showed up on the set and as usual spoke like Al Sharpton meaning straight to the point and not funny. Hughley tried, but he can’t help. Oh yeah…he also tried to be smart by asking Sharpton the question about how black people will treat black people, but he went ahead to mention that Obama was not raise by black people. Not sure what that meant. He also mentioned that black women hate to see a black man with a black woman, but Obama is the product of a white woman. What the hell was getting to, nobody knows. His conversation had no substance.
It’s obvious that Hughley toned down the show tremendously (wonder why) and he tried to make it similar to John Stewart or the other sit down comedian, but it still doesn’t work.
I’m so confused. They had this skit where they have an audience vote on whether D.L. is funny or not. They all said that he’s not funny pretending of course or was it real? I don’t get CNN anymore. What are they trying to say? In other words, CNN is actually making fun of their show by saying that it’s not funny. I just don’t get it.
Again Hughley took shots at Obama. One of the worst one tonight was when he had a fake commercial making reference to Obama not being from the US. He’s from a place far far away that makes funny signals with their hands and a place that has volcanoes and other idiotic comments. In closing it asks if you would vote for Obama or a real American. What the hell?
Also, someone should tell Hughley that bragging about his lack of education is not cute and it doesn’t do anything for kid’s morale. Our job is to teach our kids that education is important not brag about that Hughley made it without an education.
Hughley try to defend his action during the show by hinting that he’s a comedian and viewers should understand. I wonder if he read all the negative responses on the web.
I guess he thought his matching earring and rings would distract us from actually listening to him.

I have to agree with there again. I too gave it another try and it still sucks. I want to support him as much as possible, but I think that was the last time I watch it.

*sigh* I believe that he’s trying to aim for the newer-generation. The newer generation has a VERY different sense of comedy

Are you kidding me???? This is old school sterotyping…you are right the newer-genration as you call it are above the crap in the bucket mentality. DL Hughley is just a greedy performer who will do anything for $$. No integrity! NONE! He is an insult to progress.

I totally agree. Waste of time. The best part of it is Hughley’s character on Studio 60 totally hated this kind of humour (before it was cancelled, lol.) I talk a bit more about it on my blog, but in a nutshell, we should never settle for this crap.

RE THE DH HUGHLEY SHOW
I am a black male and I could barely tolerate 5 minutes of this show.
DH is not funny but he is consistently irritating. He is exactly the opposite of what Obama represents.
I AM TIRED OF THIS ‘RACIAL STEREOTYPING’ TYPE OF COMEDY. IT’S CREATES A VICIOUS CYCLE OF PERPETUATION OF NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES OF BLACKS.
AFTER LOOKING AT BET COMIC VIEW FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS THIS STLYE IS REALLY PLAYED OUT….SIMPLY NOT FUNNY..IT DEMONSTRATES A LACK OF WIT OR COMEDIC INTELLIGENCE.
CNN MUST END THIS SHOW AND CEASE TO ENDORSE THIS BRAND OF COMEDY.
SIMPLY PUT DH HUGHLEY IS CRAP.
p.s. CNN KNOWS ITS AUDIENCE,.. WHO VETTED THIS BULLSHIT??…..OR IS IT A CONSPIRACY TO CREATE CULTURAL TENSION HMMM

I found it very ironic the show aired right before the elections and had a gut feeling black folks would be the butt of all D.L.’s jokes. I never would have imaged that it would be as bad as it was. What a disgrace. I am glad to see that I was not alone in my feeling towards the show and have voiced my opinion to CNN.com. For a moment I questioned my sense of humor. After watching subsequent shows, I realize something was wrong. It was Buffoonism at its finest.

I was surprised to see CNN dip into news comedy. In fact I thought I had the wrong channel on, since it was interlaced with obvious..how shall I say…humor. However, after watching it for a little I thought..not bad. Compaired to the shallow crime sensationalism of Laryy King et all Hughley had something interesting to say laced with a little good old sarcasm.
Not that it should matter, but given the comments on this sight let it be known that I’m a pale mofo from the north (Sweden to be specific). After living for 12 years in NYC I have realized that racism is rampant in both black and white America. Hughley is not the most clever dude in the world, but he’s got a higher level of seriousness then tired old sensetaionalist like Greta von Sustern & Co.
At least humor has the advantage of require at least a degree of intelligence! Look, CNN has decayed since Ted Turner handed over the keyes to the amorphous money making crowd. As far as I go Hughley is an improvement!

We as a people should do whatever it takes to get this insulting so called attempt at comedy off the air. DL I have never understood why he is even considered a King of Comedy. He does not even so much as make me smile. From what I am finding on the net it appears many share my sentiments. So again I don’t get it. But this CNN nonsense only further demonstrates his lack of integrity. WOW! Brother, a pimp…? Come on the image of black america is not the image that is projected through the media. We all know that. They love to portray us as dopers, pimps, uneducated, welfare mongers, and every other negative image in existance. DL should be ashamed of himself.

I just stumbled on this. I am black.
I love D.L. and this show in particular. We need to lighten up and relax a bit. The other people who commented seemed really uptight about being black. It is now time for us to shed the inferiority complex and stand tall. I find D.L. very funny and the praticipation of the CNN staff really nice. He shows an open mindedness and lots of smarts in his interviews. I also realize that most people don’t know that 99% of all that takes place in a show like this is SCRIPTED, folks, meaning written mostly by other people and he is using a teleprompter most of the time.
I find him refreshing, openminded and uncluttered in his approach. One of the greatest attribute a person can have is the ability to laugh at oneself. With Omaba as the king we are assured of a level playing field (aren’t we?) and we must act with confidence and not get bent out of shape so easily. Hey lI ove D.L. I hope he continues on and be abundantly successful.
