Once in a while you have to step back and think about others. We get so wrapped up in our daily lives that we tend to forget that there’s a world around us. A world where kids are starving to death, a world where people are killed just for believing in something different.

In East Africa and especially in Ethiopia 6 out of every 10,000 people are dying daily of malnutrition. In a country where 8 out of 10 people are farmers, a lack of rain and water damages their entire support system. We are eating anything we find on the ground says one resident. Parents are trying to remain strong and alive to keep their children alive, but it’s not working in most cases.

The swollen bellies and bones can be seen for miles and miles from those that can make it to some food banks. The areas are heavily controlled by their governments and it is hard for anyone to really see what is really going on. It is almost impossible for anyone on the outside to make an accurate count of dead bodies.

The UN says that 2.6 million people in Somalia are in need of food assistance as a result of drought, conflict, hyperinflation, and high food and fuel prices. The World Food Programme believes that the figure will rise to 3.5 million in December.

What can you do you asked? I just don’t know. If anyone has a foolproof way to help these victims, please send us and email and we will investigate and publish it for everyone else. The entire system is so corrupted, it’s almost guaranteed that any organization other than the red cross you give your money to will never make it to help those in need in Africa.
